Helen Kae Carlson 1941–2019 Eden Prairie—Helen Kae (Nelemans) Carlson of Eden Prairie died October 23, 2019. Helen was born in Waseca on August 4, 1941 to Lyle and Reka Nelemans. Growing up in Waseca, she participated in many school, church and community activities and was proud to represent Waseca as Miss Sleigh Belle 1962. After graduating from Waseca Central in 1959, she went on to get her undergraduate degree at Mankato State University, and later, her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota. Helen married John Carlson in 1966 and resided in Minnetonka where she enjoyed playing tennis, walking, crafting and reading. Retired teacher of 30 years in the Hopkins and Minnetonka school districts. An avid volunteer throughout her entire life, she cherished her work with Children's Hospital, Hopkins School District, her church, and many other local organizations. She also was a proud donor at Memorial Blood Centers and gave as frequently as she could. Beloved mother, Nana, wife and sister whose infectious smile and kind heart will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle & Reka Nelemans; husband, John Carlson; and brother-in-law, Bruce Wiesner. Survived by children, Jeff (Melissa) Carlson and Kobi (Mike) Hoffman; grandchildren, Ethan, Logan & Gavin Carlson, Tyler & Sydney Hoffman; brother, Paul (Dawn) Nelemans; sister, Vernita Wiesner; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial service will take place, Monday, Nov. 11, 11 am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3801 Wooddale Ave., St. Louis Park, with a visitation beginning at 10 am, and a reception following the service.
