Cash Wise plans opens its doors in Waseca on Wednesday.
Coborn's, Inc., the St. Cloud-based parent company to Cash Wise, announced Friday it would be open for business in the former Hy-Vee building at 1230 N. State St. The turnaround was quick for Coborn's, with Hy-Vee leaving the Waseca grocery market Sept. 30.
An 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 25 ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned by Coborn's. Chris Coborn, president and CEO of Coborn's, Inc., will be in attendance along with Kevin Seeley, Cash Wise's Waseca store director, and the rest of the new Cash Wise staff. Seeley has been with the company since 2009.
Waseca Mayor Roy Srp and Ann Fitch, executive director of the Waseca Area Chamber of Commerce, will participate. Fitch is also a member of the Waseca City Council. Other Coborn's executives are expected to attend.
Plans include a grand-opening cake, which will be served to the public, along with free samples of select grocery items throughout the store from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Store plans include a full bakery and deli, a full-service floral department and a complete grocery line. A Cash Wise Liquor store is also planned adjacent to the grocery building. Cash Wise also has future plans for online shopping with curbside pickup and also plans for eventual pharmacy services.
Coborn's is a 97-year-old employee-owned grocery retailer with nearly 8,000 employees and 53 sores across Minnesota, South Dakota, Illionois and Wisconsin. The company operates stores under the Cash Wise Foods, Coborn's, Marketplace Foods and Save-A-Lot banners. In all, Coborn's supports 120 retail locations.
