The preeminent summer community festival, Rose Fest, returns to Kenyon for its 15th year starting on Friday.
Spanning three days and boasting more than 25 events, this year’s Rose Fest lineup provides some competition, some music and plenty of fun for all ages.
Below is a comprehensive schedule of events for Rose Fest Weekend in Kenyon:
Friday Aug. 19
All day events: City-wide garage sales, Field of Flags tag sales at Veterans’ Park.
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. — Book Sale at City Hall in City Council Chambers
1 p.m. — K-W Knights Booster Club Golf Tournament at Kenyon Country Club. $60 per player includes dinner.
4 p.m. — Beer Garden at the Kenyon VFW.
5 p.m. — Hog Roast at the Kenyon VFW.
5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. — Wine and Beer tasting at the Gunderson House. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
7 p.m. — Thorny Challenge obstacle course at Depot Park. $5 entrance fee with checks payable to Kenyon Rose Fest.
7 p.m. — Bingo at the Kenyon VFW.
8-10 p.m. — Free Community Pool Party at the Kenyon Pool.
8:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. — Live music at the Kenyon Muni featuring Fire at the Falls. Plus, hammerschlagen for ages 21 and over.
Saturday Aug. 20
All day events: City-wide garage sales, Kenyon High School Memorial Fund Gopher-Hawkeye football ticket raffle outside of Schweich’s (raffle is for two tickets, raffle is $5, drawing is on Sept. 16). Perry Carlson will be doing chainsaw carving demos outside of Ace Hardware all day on Saturday as well.
8 a.m. — Second Annual Fire Department 5K. Free T-Shirt if you register in advance.
8 a.m. – 3 p.m. — Car Show on Forest Street
9 a.m. — Rice County Radio Flyers remote control airplane exhibition. Just South of the K-W Football Field.
9 a.m. – 3 p.m. — New Business Expo and Farmers Market featuring home-based vendor sales on Second Street.
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. — Book sale at City Council Chambers at City Hall.
10 a.m. — Road Rally. Participants meet at Interstate Mills.
10 a.m. — Kids Pedal Tractor Pull between Security State Bank and Thrift Store.
10:30 a.m. — Kenyon VFW Auxiliary serving lunch, bar will be open.
11 a.m. – 3 p.m. — Gunderson House Tours
2 p.m. — Beer Garden at the Kenyon VFW.
4 p.m. — Rose Fest Parade featuring Shriner Units on Second Street.
After parade — The K-W Eighth Grade Washington D.C. Duck Float Fundraiser will take place at the parking lot between the Kenyon Police Department and the old ambulance shop. Also, the Eighth graders will be selling pop and water before and during the parade along the route.
5 p.m. — Bean Bag Tournament featuring music from Katie Bohn at the Kenyon Muni leading up to the Street Dance.
9 p.m. – 1 a.m. — Street Dance featuring Mountain Ash opening for Lost Highway outside of the Kenyon Muni. $10 cover charge to attend.
Sunday Aug. 21
9 a.m. — Tractor Pull at the auction lot north of Peterson Ford.
1 p.m. — Tea Time with Hattie Gunderson at the Gunderson House. Reservations required, $20 per person.
2 p.m. — Closing ceremony with the Field of Flags at Veterans’ Memorial Park in Kenyon.
