To the editor:

March 31, at the Community Forum on Solar Energy, 55 community members came together to discuss the possibility of solar energy in St Peter. In spite of the complexities of energy issues, the discussion that evening remained respectful and informative, with a focus on benefiting all citizens of St Peter by affordably adding solar to our energy mix.

Thanks to everyone who joined in the conversation, especially Todd Prafke, City Administrator; Pete Moulton, Public Works Director; Council Members Jeff Brand, Stephen Grams, John Kvamme, and Roger Parras; Dan Hayes, SMMPA representative; and the many citizens who showed up with intelligent questions regarding renewable energy for St Peter.

The forum was sponsored by Environment Minnesota, Conservation Minnesota, and Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light who are working to promote a transition from fossil fuels to more sustainable energy sources.

I'm hopeful that we will be able to continue to work together to ensure that all residents of St Peter have access to energy that is good for people and the planet.

Several attendees expressed the wish for more such community forums in the future, we hope you'll join us as the conversation continues.
