Mayo Clinic Health System has entered into an agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota to offer affordable, high-quality insurance for State of Minnesota employees in the Mankato and New Prague, Minnesota areas. State of Minnesota employees can enroll in the new health insurance plan starting Nov. 1.

The agreement offers members of the State Employee Group Insurance Program lower deductibles and copays when receiving care at Mayo Clinic Health System sites in Belle Plaine, Lake Crystal, Le Sueur, Mankato, Montgomery, New Prague, North Mankato and St. Peter.

The BCBSMN contract lowers Mayo Clinic Health System from a tier-four cost level to a tier-two cost level, which is the second lowest cost level on the four-tier system.

Mayo Clinic presents several consumer benefits for SEGIP employees and dependents who select Mayo Clinic Health System as their primary care provider. Consumers who purchase the plan will have access to the knowledge and resources of Mayo Clinic and will also have:

• A team of providers. Through our community health practice, consumers in the plan will be part of a care team model.

• 24/7 access to a nurse. Consumers in the plan will have full use of Mayo Clinic Health System nurse triage services.

• Coordinated care. Consumers will receive personalized support in scheduling a follow-up appointment with a primary care provider after an Emergency Department visit or hospital stay.

• Online access to Mayo Clinic health records. We’ll encourage use of the patient portal and other connected health platforms to promote convenience.

“Many patients face financial barriers to receiving the care they need,” says Greg Kutcher, regional president and CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System. “This new agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield helps Mayo Clinic expand the reach of exceptional, affordable health care to the communities we serve.”
