The community is invited to join in a Ceremony for the Dignified Disposal of American Flags which will be held 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14 in front of the Pavilion in Minnesota Square Park in St. Peter, weather permitting. This event replaces the Flag Day ceremony which was to be held in June, but was cancelled due to weather.

The William R. Witty American Legion Post #37 in St. Peter will conduct this solemn ceremony. Members of the American Legion Post, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and the Last Man’s Club of Vietnam War Era of St. Peter will also be participating in the ceremony.

This solemn ceremony will conclude with the dignified burning of unserviceable American flags. Post #37 accepts flags that are no longer serviceable. Flags can be dropped off at the American Legion during regular business hours. Flags that have been submitted to date have been properly folded and prepared for disposal by members of Boy Scout Troop #58 of St. Peter.

The American Legion encourages community members of all ages to join us in celebrating the American flag, the symbol of our freedom.
