Sylvester J. Buryska 1928–2019 Owatonna—Sylvester J. Buryska 91, of Owatonna, passed away November 8, 2019 at Koda Living Community in Owatonna. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Friday November 15 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owatonna. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 8:45 am at the church. Friends may greet the family from 9:00 -11:00 am on Friday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Rites by Steele County Funeral Unit. Sylvester was born October 20, 1928 in Owatonna the son of Stanley and Martha (Kubista) Buryska. Sylvester attended St. Mary's Academy and later graduated from Owatonna High School in 1946. While in high school He worked at Partridge Greenhouse. After high school he attended Mankato Commercial School. He studied punch card and computer processing. He first went to work for Cudahy in Owatonna and New Ulm. Sylvester served our country in the U.S. Army from 1950 - 1952 starting with basic training at Ft. Riley in Kansas and then deployed to Japan and Seoul, Korea during the Korean Conflict with the 21st Finance Disbursement Section. Following his honorable discharge from the Army he went to work at Owatonna Tool Company installing punch card equipment and developing computer hardware systems. Sylvester was united in marriage to Carol Ann Shultis on April 14, 1956 in Waseca and the couple made their home in Owatonna raising 5 children. After many years with the tool company Sylvester transferred to Power Team until his retirement in 1994 after 41 years of service to the company. In retirement he enjoyed doing maintenance around the house and for his kids, he enjoyed gardening and took pride in taking care of his lawn. Sylvester will be missed by his wife of 63 years Carol and children Catherine (Rick) Balzer of Owatonna, Sharon (Kevin) Holland of Tempe, AZ. Deborah (David) Pemrick of Faribault, Ann (Alan) Bunge of Woodland Park, Co. and Peter (Karla) Buryska of Mankato. Grandchildren Brandon, Scott, Ross and Reid Balzer, Stephanie and Daniel Holland, Anthony and Peter Pemrick, Tyler and Zachery Bunge, Sarah and Nickolas Buryska and many great grandchildren. Sylvester's siblings David (Karen) Buryska of Owatonna and Theresa Carey. He is preceded in death by grandsons Bradley and Matthew Buryska, one brother Robert and sisters Betty Schaeffer and Eileen Buryska. Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Building project.
