Shirley A. Keck 1942–2020 Owatonna—Shirley Ann Keck, 78, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was born May 1, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of John and Vivian (Clark) Burns. She grew up in Claremont and graduated from Claremont High School in 1960. On August 27, 1960, she married Kenneth Keck at St. John's Lutheran Church in Havana Township. The couple made their home in Claremont where they raised their five children. Along with being a homemaker, Shirley worked at Shirley's Café, Claremont News (editor and writer), Best Western, Cabela's, Walgreens and Federated Insurance. Shirley was an avid fan of Elvis and Dolly Parton. She loved to collect any kind of knick knack. She decorated her home with anything and everything that made her happy (not necessarily her family's first choice in decorations). She enjoyed gardening and especially enjoyed and loved her family. Celebrating the holidays with family was very important to her. Along with raising her children, she had a profound impact on many young people she worked with at her various jobs. For many of those young adults she was a mentor and mother figure. Many of Shirley's friends called her "Shirl". She could best be described as a sassy firecracker. She is survived by children, Lisa Johnson of Whitefish, MT, Mitchell (Jennifer) Keck of Owatonna, Shari (Ron) Neuharth of Owatonna, Kendra (Derek) Hayden of Eau Claire, WI and Karla (Todd) Hadler of Manitowoc, WI; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Donna) Burns of WI, Gary Burns of CA, Larry (Linda) Burns of IN, Jerry Stevens of WI, John Burns of IN and sister, Beverly (Arnie) Schlinger of MN.
