Delores Parrish 1930–2020 Owatonna—Delores Ardella (Johnson) Parrish, 90, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna where she had resided the past month following a long battle with Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. Delores Parrish was born at home on the family farm in Hope, Minnesota on May 26, 1930 to the late Arthur A. and Blanche (Olson) Johnson. At a young age, her family moved from their farm to the small city of Ellendale, Minnesota. She attended Ellendale Consolidated School through twelfth grade, and then she began working at Nelson's grocery store in Ellendale. Later, she worked in the bookkeeping department at Security State Bank in Owatonna. She loved to go dancing and it was at such an event that she met the man of her dreams and future husband. On June 26, 1949, she married the love of her life, Lyle Fremont Parrish at the Methodist Church in Ellendale, Minnesota. After their marriage, she worked side by side with Lyle on their family farm; they farmed for 42 years before retiring in 1991. She also worked at Waseca Canning and Owatonna Canning Company until 1993. Lyle and Delores loved to travel and took trips to all fifty states, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, and the Fiji Islands. In her retirement, Delores enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, decorating cakes, arranging flowers, and playing cards. She has received many awards for her sewing and bread baking. Not only did she enjoy life on their farm, but she participated in the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation Women's Camp. For many years, she was the top Steele County Farm Bureau seed salesperson. She was also involved in the United Methodist Women's group, served on various church committees, and taught Sunday School. Delores was an active member of Owatonna United Methodist Church. She volunteered her time at Heritage Halls in Owatonna. Delores leaves behind her four children: Arlen (Marilyn) Parrish, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Pamela (Larry) Schleusner, of Rochester, Minnesota; Keith (Julia) Parrish, of Colton, South Dakota; and John Parrish, of Owatonna, Minnesota. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Nathaniel (Alison) Parrish, of Waterloo, Iowa; Jonathan Parrish, of Kernersville, North Carolina; Jesse Schleusner, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Krista Schleusner, of Eyota, Minnesota; Brian Schleusner, of Wykoff, Minnesota; and Isaac Parrish, of Hutchinson, Minnesota; three great grandchildren: Caitlin, Ireland, and Felicity; and two sister-in-laws: Marie Johnson and Mavis Parrish. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Blanche; her husband, Lyle; a sister, Vercella (Pat) Smith; and a brother, Dwight Johnson. A celebration of Delores' life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, August 10, 2020. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Blooming Grove Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Owatonna United Methodist Church, Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, or organization of choice.
