John F. Olson Owatonna—John Frederick Olson, 68, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at his home. He was born September 22, 1952 in Minneapolis the son of Neilan and Fredericka (Lundgren) Olson. John grew up in St. Cloud where he graduated from St. Cloud High School and attended St. Cloud State University. He moved to Owatonna in 1971 working as a roofer and later started his career with Josten's. On June 1, 1974, John married Eileen Giesler in Morristown. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they had three children together. They were later divorced. John retired after more than 30 years working at Josten's. In retirement, he worked at a group home for the state of Minnesota, Elm Home, volunteered with Special Olympics and delivered newspapers. John was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He loved his dog, the outdoors, golfing, fishing and model antique cars. He is survived by his son, Ted (and Tay) Olson of Winooski, VT; daughters, Jamie Olson of Owatonna, Robin Roseland of Owatonna; granddaughters, Haylee Roseland of Owatonna, Rylee Roseland of Owatonna, Olivia Hamer of Owatonna, Aili Olson of Winooski; ex-wife, Eileen (and Robert) Johnson of Owatonna and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanne Newman, Nicola Abel and his beloved dog, Minnie. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 11am at Michaelson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Steele County Humane Society, Owatonna AA or to the donor's choice.
