Darlene J. Bendorf 1933–2020 Owatonna—Darlene Jean Bendorf, 87, of Owatonna, died Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Owatonna Hospital. Darlene was born January 5, 1933 on the family farm in Claremont, MN to Clarence and Marie (Bredlow) Thurnau. She was a 1951 graduate of Owatonna High School. Darlene (Dottie) married Lavern (Bud) Bendorf on October 8, 1951 in Owatonna. With the exception of the time Bud was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, WA, Darlene and Bud lived their entire married life in Owatonna. Darlene had been employed at Jostens, Inn Towne (Owatonna Inn), Monterey Ballroom and Power Team from which she retired. After Bud passed away, Darlene sold the family farm and moved into Morehouse Manor where she made many friends and loved gathering for the activities that were provided to the residents. Darlene's interests included baking (especially cookies for her grandkids), gardening, playing cards with her grandkids, knitting, crocheting, and spending time at their family cabin in Grand Rapids, MN. Dottie enjoyed and loved being with people. Darlene is survived by four of her five children, Vicky (LeRoy) Hartle, Bonnie (Kim) Neumann, David (Michele) Bendorf, Karen (Mark) Peterson and daughter-in-law Kathy Bendorf all of Owatonna; grandchildren Brooke (Geoff) Zahn, Aubrey (Jason) McShane, Luke (Molly) Hartle, Maggie (Anthony) Kramer, Nick (Sue) Neumann, Kris (Shane) Reinhard, Cassie (Bob) Hanson, Matt Bendorf, Tom Bendorf, Nicole (Daniel) McCauley, and Amanda (Andrew) LaDouceur; great grandchildren Abigail, Lauren, Jackson, Max, Mya, Joey, Kade, Leo, Maudie, Kael, Corinna, Cordelia, Easton, Koa and "one on the way". She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Darlene is preceded in death by her husband Bud in 2010, her son Daniel in 2018, her parents, her mother- and father-in-law and her brothers Jerry Thurnau and Dick Thurnau. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held December 31, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with visitation an hour before the service.
