OWATONNA — Finance, construction and management officials officially broke ground Monday at a new apartment complex being built near Interstate 35.
Work on Park Place on Allan began last week, and by Monday the initial construction plot had been largely cleared and leveled. It is being built on a lot immediately in front of Northwoods Cinema 10 movie theater, on Allan Avenue.
Officials from Redline Development Group, which is building the project; Profinium, Inc, which is financing it; and Lasson Management, which will operate the finished building, broke out the hard hats and golden shovels to formally launch the project, which will include 33 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Lasson Business Development Manager Brad Pfahning said apartments will range from 655 to 1362 square feet and offer such amenities as individual heating, washer and dryer and deck.
Callers interested in renting an apartment can call Lasson to be put on a waiting list. Developers hope to have the building finished by summer 2017.
Joining the groundbreaking group was Brad Meier, getting an early start to his first day on the job as president of the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. Meier said the project, which could expand with a second 33-unit building as early as next year, is a boon for Owatonna’s economic development.
“Workforce and housing are both big needs, and we can’t attract workers if we don’t have housing,” he said. “This project is key for that piece of things, and it’s good to see it, it’s good access to the industrial park, so this is good moving forward for Owatonna.”
