OWATONNA — The Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism has announced the new face of its MainStreet program.

Chamber President Brad Meier announced Thursday that Shirley Schultz has been hired as MainStreet Director. Meier said Schultz has been active with the chamber for many years and with MainStreet as a volunteer since 2013.

“Schultz is passionate about the success of downtown Owatonna and has a desire to make it even better,” he said in a press release. “She is a great fit to move the vision for downtown forward.”

MainStreet focuses on improvements and beautification downtown, and Schultz, a Realtor with Parkside Realty, said she’s looking forward to new ways to boost the central business district.

“Mainstreet is exciting, and there are so many opportunities for our community in our downtown,” she said. “People want to have a vibrant downtown … everyone wants to be happy with their town, so there’s some options for us to do something, with the restaurant challenge, the retail challenge, and bringing some more businesses downtown.”

Schultz has deep personal ties in the downtown, with both her husband, Greg, and son, Grant, operating businesses in the area, but she said she has relationships with businesses all over town and looks forward to hearing from and working with local stakeholders.

“We’ll be working with our advisory committee, the chamber and the [Owatonna Economic Development Authority] for some projects coming down the line,” she said. “There’s some grant opportunities to make things happen, so we want to kind of go after that stuff.”

Schultz will start in the new role on April 10.
