OWATONNA —A cancer benefit for Dan Mischke will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Spare Time Entertainment in Owatonna. Funds from this benefit will help with medical and personal expenses. To make a cash or item donation for the event, call Terry Picha at 507-456-5740 (cell); 507-583-9940 (home); bug221119@yahoo.com (email). Any item will help. There will also be food available and a DJ, along with bowling and drawings.

Dan has recently been diagnosed with Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma, avery rare form of cancer; only 100 documented cases. It is a vascular cancer in the lining of the blood vessels. It is seen in the lungs, liver and veins of the arms and legs. There is no known cause and it is unresponsive to any known strain of chemotherapy. Dan will have continued scans of his lungs and liver every 4 to 6 months.

After hearing of this benefit, Pete Smith felt the need to help Dan and his family. Smith, who currently lives in Georgia, sent the family a hand-stitched quilt that his grandmother on his father's side  had crafted for him.

Along with the quilt, other items up for auction include: 10 speed bike, youth guitar, charter fishing trips, hot air balloon rides, 12 person catered meal, hunting and fishing gear from Cabela's, Dale Earnhardt Jr racing jacket, Daytona 500 championship gear, hotel suite package, Minnesota Twins autographed framed print, horse riding birthday party for six, massages, over 30 different gift baskets, restaurant and automotive items, and much more. For more information, contact Terry at 456-5740.
