Mary Erickson 1922–2018 Northfield—Mary Erickson, Age 95, of Northfield died on January 20, 2018 at Three Links Care Center. Mary was born in Hallock to Tom and Effie Minchinton on August 10, 1922. They lived there for seven years before moving to Grand Forks, ND. She graduated from high school there and met her soon to be husband, Leif Erickson, in 1941 while there. She went on to complete training in nursing at Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis before marrying Leif in 1943. They then moved to Brooklyn, NY where she worked at the Veteran's Hospital while her husband was overseas. Eventually they moved to New City, NY where Mary raised their 3 children and contributed much of her time to the community. She was incredibly involved with Evangelical Free Church there or the "Free Church," as Mary called it. She also served as a volunteer on several committees, groups, and missions organization as well as the library. After losing her husband in 2005, she decided that it was time to move after spending 64 years in the same house in New City. She claimed that she needed to move to Northfield to "live by Bruce (her son)," because she didn't want to rake the leaves anymore. She lived by herself until she was no longer able to care for herself. Mary was known as a person who was always happy and loving. She was wonderful and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children Tom (Janet) Erickson, Evelyn (Tony) Nester, and Bruce (Debbie) Erickson; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister Helen Sletta; brother Don (Sherri) Mitchinton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leif Erickson; parents; and siblings Tom Minchinton, Jim Minchinton, and Florence Minchinton. A memorial service will be held at Northfield Evangelical Free Church, 5600 110th St. E., at 11 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date at Martinus-Hogenkamp Cemetery, New City, NY. Memorials may be designated to the Northfield Evangelical Free Church. biermanfuneralhome.com
