Larry O. Jones 1940–2019 Faribault—Larry Oliver Jones was born to Edmund and Mildred Jones in Winnebago, Minnesota on July 13, 1940. In 1950 the family moved to a farm near Blue Earth, Minnesota. During his youth, he was active in sports, music, and 4-H club. After graduating from Blue Earth High School, he received a BS from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in chemical engineering. Before beginning his career, he traveled for six months visiting friends and living with their families in India, Japan, Cambodia, Israel and throughout Europe. In 1972 he joined American Cyanamid Research Center in Connecticut, where he met and married Ilse. Their daughter, Christine was born in 1976. Subsequent career moves took him to New Jersey and Baton Rouge, LA where he became a Catalyst Coordinator in Basic Chemicals and Intermediate Technology with Exxon Mobile. Upon retirement, he and Ilse returned to Minnesota, where they built a country home near Northfield. Larry enjoyed numerous hobbies and pastimes. Among them were photography, hiking, fishing, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, baking, cooking, and woodworking. He was a musician all his life, singing in church and community choirs, playing his beloved piano, and enjoying concerts. He and Ilse traveled internationally and toured many national parks. They enjoyed visiting their daughter, Christine and her family in Alaska at least twice a year. They generously shared their lake place near Park Rapids, Minnesota with friends and family. Larry passed away on Monday, November 11th at Mayo Clinic Hospital-St. Mary's Campus in Rochester. His good heart and willingness to serve will be greatly missed by his family and community. He is survived by his wife Ilse of Faribault; a daughter Christine (Brian) Kleinhenz of Juneau, AK; two grandchildren Odin and Aaron Kleinhenz; and three sisters Marcia (Bob) Grant of New Hope, Sharon (Phil) Carlson of Golden Valley, and Jolene Krussow of Blue Earth. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at Northfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 23, 2019, beginning at 11:00 AM with Reverend Rachel McIver Morey officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, November 22, 2019, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bierman Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service in the church. biermanfuneralhome.com.
