Betty Raadt 1928–2020 Northfield—Betty Raadt, age 92, passed away with family by her side on Friday evening, October 9, 2020, at Reflections Care Suites on the Three Links Campus. Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Raadt was born August 17, 1928, at the old Northfield Hospital on Water Street to Warren and Emma (Marek) Slocum. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1946 and attended Minneapolis Business College, then worked as a secretary in the Admissions Department at Carleton College. On June 4, 1949, Betty married Wesley Raadt at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Northfield, and the couple made their home in Minneapolis. After two years, they returned to Northfield where they raised their six children. Along with bringing up their children, Betty worked at a variety of businesses in Northfield, including 20 years at St. Olaf -- in Admissions and the Student Health Center. Betty and Wes loved loading up the kids to travel and camp across the United States and Canada. After retiring, Betty and Wes had a wonderful summer together traveling to Europe and visiting friends and kids. Wesley passed away suddenly that fall. Betty was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Dominic. In retirement, she kept busy volunteering and worked as a lunch lady at St. Dominic's School. She enjoyed knitting and reading, visiting family and friends, and traveling. Survived by her children, John (Linda) of Savage, Bill (Becky) of Elk River, Mark (Connie) of Enid, OK, Mary (Thomas) Bauer of Golden Valley, Gregory of Northfield; daughter-in-law, Dawn of Northfield, 13 grandchildren (Amanda, Nolan, Paul, Kyle, Leianna, Tim, Sidney, Jay, Moses, Jeff, Tyler, Matt, and Jessica), 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wesley, son Lawrence, daughter-in-law Wendy, and brothers William and Donald Slocum. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Northfield. The family welcomes cards and memories, which can be sent to Benson & Langehough Funeral Home, 201 East 4th Street, Northfield, MN 55057.
