Arliss "Arly" Boyum 1931–2021 Northfield—Arliss (Arly) Lorraine Boyum, 89, of Northfield, passed away peacefully in her home Friday, January 1, 2021. Arly was born January 17, 1931, in Northfield to Chris and Bertha Peterson. She graduated from Northfield High School with the class of '48. On May 12, 1951, she married Stanley Oscar Boyum at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Northfield where she was a lifelong member. Arly worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. before being a full-time homemaker. When her children were older, she worked nights at the Carleton College switchboard, and then at Northfield Junior High School as the Head Cook. While raising a family and working outside the home, Arly also helped Stan with the family construction company. Arly and Stan enjoyed attending concerts, plays and numerous sporting events. They supported countless NHS activities for years after their own children graduated. Arly visited 50 North (Northfield Senior Center) daily for many years and especially enjoyed playing cards, swimming, eating lunch and great conversation. She also enjoyed dancing, traveling and visiting with friends and family including the gang on Washington Street. Some of her most treasured times were with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arly volunteered countless hours at St Peter's Lutheran Church, MOPS, book fairs, the popcorn wagon at Bridge Square, Northfield Hospital gift shop, Meals on Wheels and 50 North. Arly was a faithful follower of God, well known in the community and loved by all. She will be greatly missed. Arly is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Jon) Meyer of Appleton, WI., and Mary Boyum of Northfield; three sons, Dale (Sheri Jo) of Burnsville, Al of Elysian and Dave (Deb) of Northfield; five grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Tyler of Plano, IL, Erik (Bethany) Meyer of Oshkosh, WI, Danielle (Matthew) Crase of Dundas, Dusti (Taylor) Sullivan of Crystal and Krista Jo of Anoka; two great-grandchildren, Melina Meyer and Quinn Crase as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Oscar and siblings Esther, Carmen, Verna, Burton and Curtis. Funeral services will be private due to COVID-19 and held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Northfield on January 17, 2021 at 11 AM.
