Madalyn Petersen 1950–2021 Northfield—Madalyn Petersen, age 70, passed away with her husband and family by her side on Saturday evening, January 9, 2021, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Madalyn Ann Meyer Petersen was born August 30, 1950, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Herman and Dorothy (Haust) Meyer. She was raised on the family farm near Webster and attended New Prague Schools (riding the bus one hour each way!), and graduated from New Prague High School in 1968. In 1972, she received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Concordia College in St. Paul. On August 26, 1972, Madalyn married Marlin C. Petersen at St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster. After marriage they made their home on the Petersen family farm in Greenvale Township. Over the years Madalyn worked for Sheldahl, McKesson and Udder Tech. Madalyn was a member of Christiania Lutheran Church where among many things, she was active with the worship committee, church council and had served as choir director. When the kids were young she was very involved with 4-H and she spent several years on the Dakota County ADA board. Madalyn was always generous with her time, helpful, warm hearted and a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Marlin; her children, Douglas (Crystal) of Fargo, Amy (TJ) Kleeberger of Buffalo Lake, Julie Smith of Owatonna; 6 grandchildren, Aiden, Connor and Ayla Petersen, Mitchell Kleeberger, Nate and Alexis Smith; her sister, Nora (Charlie) Rud of Webster; her brother, Arlo (Colleen) Meyer of Faribault; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters Edith Nelson and Ona Sheets. Visitation will be 4-7PM, Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield. Masks are required and the funeral home will assist with social distancing. Due to Covid-19 funeral services at Christiania Lutheran Church will be private.
