Jerome 'Jerry' Peterson 1930–2019 Northfield—Our beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, Jerome "Jerry" Peterson passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019. He was 89 years old. He was born the son of Albert and Christine (Kubat) Peterson on February 4, 1930, in Bixby, Minnesota. The family soon moved to Northfield where he grew up and graduated from high school. After high school, he attended a meat cutting school in Blooming Prairie. He entered the United States Army and proudly served as a cook in a medic unit in the Korean War. He often recalled with fondness the personal relationships and friendships he developed with his fellow servicemen. Upon returning home from the war, he met Darlyne Maser and after a short courtship, they were happily married. After marrying, they moved to Wells Minnesota, where he used his meat-cutting skills to work as a butcher at a local meat market. When their first son was born they moved back to Northfield. Upon returning to Northfield, he worked for a dry cleaner and learned all the skills necessary to be very accomplished at that profession. He moved on to work for Scott's Dry Cleaners, eventually purchasing the business from Mr. Scott. After selling the dry cleaners, he began a long career working at Malt-O-Meal. A very important part of his life was his woodworking. After much practice and trial and error, he became a very accomplished self-taught craftsman. He handmade many pieces of fine furniture and produced endless wonderful works of art on his lathe. He was very proud of his accomplishments and delighted in giving away his creations. His other passion was volunteering his time and skills at the Phillipo Boy Scout Camp near Cannon Falls. There he found a great friend in Father John Brown as they enjoyed working side by side at the Scout Camp giving of their time for a heartfelt cause. He will always be remembered in the hearts and minds of his family and those who knew him as the kind, gentle, giving and loving soul that he was. We all loved him dearly and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Darlyne; two sons, Michael (David Burke) of Atlanta, Ga, Steven (Nancy) of Northfield; a granddaughter Shauna of Twin Lakes; great-granddaughter Jazmyn; and his twin sister Jeanette Myers of Saratoga Springs, NY. Services will be held at a later date. If you wish, kindly make a donation to a charity of your choice in his honor. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home and Crematory. biermanfuneralhome.com
