Patricia Hanzlik 1924–2019 Northfield—After 95 years of love, lessons and laughter, Patricia Jane Hanzlik left this world July 9, 2019, but will never leave the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A proud Carrington, North Dakota girl, "Queen Patty" (she was homecoming queen, of course) didn't settle for a life of either/or. She was beauty and brains (yep, valedictorian, too). Her heart: a mix of sweet vulnerability and fierce strength to protect. Pat possessed the rare combination of both right-and left-brain brilliance. She had the science and mathematical intellect to become an aircraft radio assistant engineer during WWII and the creativity to know how to score rationed beer after the war. The latter involved hanging out with baseball players "who got the good stuff." That's how she met Joe, her loving husband. Together they built a life in NE Minneapolis and later in Northfield, MN. Always the overachiever, Pat had 10 children whom she called "her world" and who she taught independence, confidence, to laugh at oneself, and that even underwear needs to be ironed. Pat attended the University of Minnesota War-Time College, the College of St. Scholastica and the University of North Dakota, earning an electrical engineering and associate degree in accounting. To her children she passed on a love of learning and the belief that no problem is too tough to solve if you do your homework, stubbornly persist, and channel equal parts knowledge and cleverness. Her love of numbers, research and sports served her well later in life when she studied the analytics of NFL Football League players and, at 87, became the 1st Yahoo Fantasy Football League Champion. Labeled nationally as a guru and featured in Sports Illustrated, she didn't let fame go to her head – even though her trophy was bigger than any her husband had won. A fact, she said, she doesn't plan to mention when they meet in heaven. Survivors include her children, Patti Jo (Michael) Corsi of Bedford, Texas, Stephen (Gayle) Hanzlik of Alexandria, Jean (Gary) Carling of Anoka, Joseph (Vonnie) Hanzlik, Jr. of Anoka, Kevin (Jeanne) Hanzlik of Northfield, Michelle (Gary) Norman of Emily, Susan (Joseph) Wozniak of Roseville, Mary Fran Hanzlik of Mahtomedi, Kathleen Darcy Hanzlik (Gene Zilberg) of St. Paul, Kristine (Donnie) Nihart of South St. Paul; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, James (Jo) Ebentier of Scottsdale; her sister, Mary Ellen Jesse of Bismarck; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her parents, Arthur and Sarah (Darcy) Ebentier; and her infant brother, John. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00AM, Monday, July 15, 2019, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, Northfield. Interment was at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Northfield Retirement Community or St. Dominic School. www.northfieldfuneral.com
