Mary Beth Bremer 1944–2020 Northfield—Mary Beth Bremer of Northfield, Minnesota, was a beautiful light who passed quietly from this world on October 19, 2020. Born October 23, 1944, she was the eldest child of Carroll and Oscar Palrud. Mary Beth spent her childhood playing in the neighborhoods of Cannon Falls, MN before graduating from Cannon Falls High School in 1962. She went on to the University of Minnesota, where earned a degree in Journalism. After college she went on to careers at General Electric and Gamble Corp. She returned to work with the faculty at the University of Minnesota and later worked at St. John's Lutheran Church. In 1968 she married her life's love, John Bremer, and eventually settled in Northfield, MN to raise their two children, Kelly and Andrew. Mary Beth brought comfort and a warm cup of coffee to the many who visited Hattie's Coffee Shop in the Archer House. Within Hattie's walls she wove an atmosphere of coziness and visual delight, with thematic décor and gifts that made every season sparkle. Mary Beth was an ardent fan of all sports played by the Minnesota Gophers, but had a particular love of football and women's sports. Her quiet time was spent cultivating a yard filled with flowers that delighted the senses, both from outside and inside. She had a keen eye for craftsman antiques and a love of all works by Maxfield Parrish. Holidays were a special time for Mary Beth, and her Christmas trimmings and ornately decorated trees enchanted all who passed through her doors each holiday season. Survivors include her husband John, children Kelly (Rik Olsen) and Andrew (Beth Hayden); grandchildren: Grace and Dane Olsen; siblings: Lynn (David) Palrud, Dawn (Jack) Coffey, Bob (Judy) Palrud, and Jean (Shawn) Page; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family will be holding a small private service at St. John's Lutheran Church in Northfield. Internment at Cannon Falls Cemetery.
