Late Saturday night, Northfield police saw a man erratically driving down Jefferson Parkway, barely able to stay on the road, in what police found out was a stolen vehicle.
Officer Brian Kramer watched from the Rock Fields parking lot as the vehicle weaved past, drove on the median several times and stopped on its own, as the driver got out, appearing to look under the car for something, Kramer said in the police report.
Benito Daniel Figueroa, 18, had a blood alcohol level of .224, almost three times the legal limit.
The officer approached the vehicle and told Figueroa to get back in the car, according to the complaint. Figueroa kept repeating, “Drunk, so drunk.” He commented that the officer should just take him to detox or jail.
Figueroa admitted to sneaking in the back door of a bar and drinking vodka, rum and beer, in an attempt to blackout, according to the criminal complaint.
Figueroa said he didn’t know where he was going, but knew he was in Northfield. He didn’t know how he got the car or where it came from and laughed at the officer when asked.
He was arrested and brought to the Northfield Safety Center.
Figueroa appeared in Rice County Court Monday morning and will stay in jail until his next hearing.
