Sharon Sayles Belton, shown here with then President Bill Clinton in April 1994, served from 1994-2001 as Minneapolis’ first Black female mayor. In 1978 she co-founded the Harriet Tubman Shelter for Battered Women. She is also a co-founder of the National Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
