Eleanor Velzke 1929–2020 Faribault —Eleanor Velzke was welcomed into heaven on August 9, 2020, at the age of 91. She was born on January 6,1929 to Louis and Emma (Karow) Traeger. She was baptized, confirmed, married, and a lifelong member at Trinity Lutheran Church. Eleanor married the love of her life, Gordon Velzke on September 6,1952 in Faribault. She graduated from Faribault Senior High School in 1946. After high school she attended Commercial Business College in Mankato, Mn. Eleanor worked as a secretary for Harry Smith Insurance, Thibodeau Insurance and Ostrom Insurance agencies. In her later years she enjoyed working at Nona B's clothing store. During her life she participated in church youth group, church choir, Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, Legion Auxiliary, and Red Hats. Eleanor enjoyed seasonally decorating her home, making flower arrangements, shopping, going "up north", traveling, and socializing with friends. Most of all, Eleanor loved to do things with her husband Gordie. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved her family. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Gordon; two daughters Jean (Dana) Larson and Pam (Marc) Shaft; three grandchildren Bret (Katie) Larson, Alex (Lexi) Larson, and Katelin Shaft, two great grandchildren Oliver and Henry Larson; sister and brother in-law, MaryAnn and Ray Sanders, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and faithful friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters -in-law Milton and Ruby Velzke, Warren and Betty Velzke, and Henry (Hank) Velzke. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Tyler Werner, officiating. Interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the church on Wednesday. Visit for information and guestbook.
