Phyllis E. Koehler 1944–2020 Faribault—Phyllis E. Koehler, age 75 of Faribault, died on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Homestead Hospice House, Owatonna. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, a private interment will be held at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Phyllis Elaine, the daughter of Henry and Ethel (Anderson) Olson, was born May 29, 1944, in Wabasha. She graduated from Mankato High School and Mankato State University. Phyllis married Robert L. Koehler on July 31, 1965, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Mankato. She was previously employed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Faribault as the Ephphatha Coordinator and teacher. Phyllis was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and its quilting group, Delta Kappa Gama, Rice County Piemakers and Faith Bible study. Phyllis was a master quilter with skilled hands and a loving heart. Phyllis was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer more than five years ago. She received expert medical treatment and care from Dr. John Trusheim at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Phyllis fought the cancer valiantly and far surpassed the average life expectancy of less than two years making it to the 90+ survivor percentile. She eventually died of internal bleeding in her abdomen. She is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Renee (and Mark) Doering, of St. Louis Park, MN, and Michael (and Charity) Koehler, of Sioux City, IA; four grandchildren, Michelle and Nicole Doering and Hannah and Erik Koehler; and her sister, Eilene (and Rod Langford) Fuller of Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Gelene Polyard; a brother, Leland Olson, Sr.; and parents in law, Myron (and Eveline) Koehler.
