Karla Furey 1960–2019 Faribault—Karla Furey, age 58, of Faribault. On July 21, 2019, I finished my 3-year journey of living with terminal breast cancer while in the loving arms of my husband and children, surrounded by family. Find peace in knowing that cancer no longer has a hold on me, I am no longer in pain or have to endure the grueling chemo treatments anymore. I am now free to enjoy eternal life and joy with our loving GOD and my dear mother in heaven. I was born on September 7, 1960, to James C. and Gretchen Nelson. Graduated from Faribault senior high in 1979 and married the love of my life, John Furey on September 6, 1980. After giving birth to my daughter Cassidy in 1984 and my son Brandon in 1985, I went to college and obtained my LPN degree. Several years later I returned to college and received my RN degree and worked most recently as a Director of Nursing in Assisted Living facilities. I'm not going to bore anyone with all the little details, so this is it in a nutshell. I grew up loving to play and compete in sports. My favorites as an adult were softball, volleyball, and golf. And if I must say so myself, I was pretty damn good. I loved the outdoors which is why John and I spent lots of time traveling, camping, and riding our motorcycles. I don't have any notable achievements in my life to mention except for giving birth to and raising my two amazing children, Cassidy and Brandon. I was given the luxury of being a stay at home mom and to teach my children to love the outdoors and everything it had to offer. I taught them to be kind to everyone, honest, and to be strong so that they could do anything they set their minds to. And most importantly, the love and closeness of family. I am survived by my husband of 38 years, caregiver & hero, John Furey of Faribault; daughter, Cassidy (Jim) Peterson, grandchildren Logan and Greysen of Nerstrand; son, Brandon (Danielle) Furey of Shieldsville. Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2019, from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge #1166, 131 Lyndale Ave. N, Faribault, MN. Private interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
