Elsie A. Keller 1925–2019 Nerstrand—Elsie A. (Mrs. Arnold) Keller, age 93, of rural Nerstrand, passed away suddenly at the Northfield Hospital on Friday, August 30, 2019. Funeral services will be at St. John's United Church of Christ, Wheeling Township, Rice County, on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Lora Sturm officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Church Cemetery, Wheeling Township, Rice County. Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and also at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Elsie was born on October 16, 1925 to Frank and Amanda (Piepho) Bosshart, and the youngest of 27 grandchildren of Jacob and Sophie (Helberg) Bosshart. They were early settlers in Wheeling Township and one of the founding fathers of St. John's congregation. Elsie married Arnold Keller on June 23, 1949 at St. John's Church. Elsie was proud of her heritage and lived her whole life at the Bosshart family farm, where many generations of extended family members came together learning strong values and important life lessons. She was privileged in her life to travel twice to Switzerland, the Bosshart homeland. A lifelong member of St. John's Church, Elsie was active in various projects throughout the years; singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school over 50 years, and she just completed her 51st year coordinating the summer VBS program. She continued to be active in the Women's Guild, assisting in events at the church for 20+ years (Germanfest, Big Woods Race, etc.). Elsie and Arnold were the church custodians, which she continued after his death until her death. Family and friends knew where to find Elsie for a visit each Sunday, sitting humbly in "her chair" as you enter the sanctuary. Elsie enjoyed canning vegetables (green beans the night before her death), collecting recipes, clippings from the newspaper, and reading. She also was very passionate about her kitties - always making special treats for them. Easter was special to Elsie, as she loved decorating Easter eggs, especially the large goose eggs. Many of the Sunday school, junior choir kids, and in later years, her grandchildren were the recipients of this tradition. Elsie is survived by her children, Craig Keller, Keith (Kim) Keller, and Pauline (Gordie) Wiegrefe, all of the Nerstrand area; grandchildren, Kelly (Zach) Hertle, Karlie, Kyle, and Kasandra Keller, and Becky (David) Wiegrefe Schran; great-grandchildren, Brady and Layla Schran and Allie Hertle. She is also survived by a brother in-law, Wilmer "Pete" and Helen Keller; a sister-in-law, Arlene (Keller) Bultman; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Keller on January 13, 1999; and many loved and cherished family members. Memorial gifts may be directed to St. John's Church Improvement Fund.
