A rainy day threatened to delay the girls golf 2AA state finals first round on Tuesday, but with no sign of lightning, the biggest competition of the season forged ahead at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan.
Senior Crystal Cariveau and junior Hannah Potter represented Waseca in the individuals competition where Potter finished in 25th overall after day one and Cariveau stood in 49th.
Potter shot a 44 through the first nine holes and improved on the back nine, as she put up a 41 giving her an 85 on the day. Potters round was highlighted by an eagle on the sixth hole, a par 4.
Cariveau shot a 51 on the first half of the day but remained focused and put together a nice finish to end the day as she shot a 42 on the back nine.
“Crystal had some bad breaks but kept her focus and made some good shots to finish the round. We look forward to tomorrow’s round,” coach Jake Nelson said Tuesday.
Cariveau will tee-off first for Waseca on Wednesday at 12:09 and begin at the tenth hole with Kadyn Triebenbach, Sydney Wright and Maggie Bahr. Potter will also begin on the tenth hole and is set to tee-off at 12:27 with Brooke Krebs, Maddie Wethington and Nina Steigauf.
