Community members are invited to attend the 2013 Grand March, held in conjunction with Prom, on Saturday May, 4 at 4:00 p.m. in the Kenyon-Wanamingo High School Gym. This year’s prom theme is Moonlit Grove. Decorations will transform the K-W High School Gym as it becomes the backdrop for the Grand March. There is a $2.00 per person fee (preschoolers are free) which supports the annual After Prom Party.

Following Grand March students and their chaperones will depart Kenyon for an evening of dining and dancing at The St. James Hotel in Red Wing. When the dancing concludes, the evening is far from over.

For the past year a group of dedicated parents have planned the traditional After Prom Party. This safe, fun, and chemical-free event is possible through generous donations made by businesses and individuals in Kenyon, Wanamingo, and several neighboring communities. Look for the After Prom Party thank-you certificate on merchant windows or walls as you shop. In addition to these donations, a student registration fee and proceeds from Grand March help fund the After Prom Party.

This year’s After Prom Party will be held at the Rochester Recreation Center. Laughter and cheering will surely fill the air as students compete in various contests, snack on a variety of goodies, and anticipate their name being drawn for one of the terrific door prizes.

Prom is a milestone for many teenagers. They spend plenty of money, either their parents or their own savings, time planning for the event, and time preparing to look their best. It is fun to see the makeover that takes place. These teens shed their jeans with holes, untied tennis shoes, symbol-laden T-shirts and athletic uniforms. They transform into handsome young men wearing tuxedos that have been carefully coordinated to match the stunning gowns worn by beautiful young women. Parents bombard their children with flashes and insist on “smiles”, which can seem annoying. Ultimately everyone is happy when the next day and even months later they have photos to look at to reminisce. Please join us for Grand March and as we celebrate our youth and enjoy this event.
