Sydney Poquette, a Goodhue County 4-H member, is on of the recipients of this year’s Kern Scholarship. The Kern Scholarship is awarded to three 4-H youth entering their freshman year at one of the University of Minnesota campuses or an institution within the Minnesota State colleges and Universities System with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
Poquette is a member of the Aspelund Ever Readies 4-H Club, and is a 2019 graduate of Kenyon-Wanamingo High School. She is active in her club as the club president, and she has a passion for working with 4-H youth as a regional camp counselor. She is a member of the Goodhue County 4-H General Livestock Team, and is active in the beef, sheep and goat project areas.
Poquette will attend the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in the fall and later plans to attend medical school. Her future career plans are to work in the field of pediatric oncology, with the end goal of doing research to develop a new way to treat cancer patients.
