The adrenaline was flowing for St. Peter senior Jade Reicks in the state Class A track and field meet preliminaries Friday as he wanted to prove that he could run faster than he did in the Section 2A meet a week earlier.

Running in 90-degree heat, Reicks advanced to the finals in all three of his events at Hamline University in St. Paul.

He finished first in his best event, the 300-meter hurdles, in a school record  38.69 seconds. He came in with a seed time of 39.22, which was just 0.01 off the school record.

Reicks tied for second in the 100 dash in 11.15 seconds, besting his section time of 11.49.

He also took runner-up in the 200 dash in 22.35, compared to 22.88 in the section.

Facing more competition than he has in the past five years at state, St. Peter senior Ben Bode finished second in the wheelchair shot put with a toss of 18 feet, 3.75 inches which beats his section distance of 18.00.25. Bode will compete in the discus in the final day of competition which begins at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The St. Peter girls 4x800 relay team of Amelia Carlson, Izzy Lind, Hadley Stuehrenberg and Maddie More will also run, along with More in the 1,600 run.
