This spring, five South Central College Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) students will have two graduations to attend — their high school graduation and their college graduation from South Central College (SCC).

Amina Khalif from St. Peter High School will receive her Associate of Arts degree from SCC.

“I heard I would be knocking off both college and high school credits,” she said. “The benefits of PSEO are getting college experience and seeing how things worked, and also getting my prerequisites for my future major done. I plan to come back to SCC to pursue my nursing degree.”

The Minnesota PSEO program allows 10th, 11th and 12th-grade students to enroll in college or university classes free of charge, earning both college and high school credits upon successful class completion. While most PSEO students take just a few college or university classes, these motivated students took more and are earning both their high school diploma and a degree from South Central College this spring.

There were two other area students who accomplished the same at St. Peter’s Khalif through SCC.

James Meagher from Mankato East High School will receive his Civil Engineering Technology Associate of Applied Science degree. Kiara Newman from Minnesota Virtual Academy will receive her Welding Certificate.
