In celebration of International Walk to School Day, more than 120 St. Peter students, parents and Gustavus Adolphus College athletes walked from Gorman Park to South Elementary Early Learning Center Oct. 9.
The line of walkers stretched almost three blocks. A mother with two kids counted pumpkins on the way and they counted 20 total. A second grade boy used leaves and a stick to create a boat sculpture. Students that ride the bus to school walked a 1/4 mile loop around South Elementary once they arrived — altogether they walked about 38 miles.
Students also walked from the park to North Intermediate.
Those who missed Wedneday’s first walk will have two more chances to participate. The event will continue Wednesday, Oct. 16 and Wednesday, Oct. 23. It will start at 7:30 a.m. and students will leave from the west end of Gorman Park.
