BECKER — Kollyn Alwes capped his great sophomore season with an 11-over-par 83 at the annual Class A state golf tournament on Wednesday morning at Pebble Creek in Becker.

Alwes, who entered the day in the top 25, slipped to 49th place overall, but still managed to finish near the middle of the pack among the 87 individual participants. He started the day with back-to-back birdies and was even through six holes before ending his first nine holes with two bogeys and a par, posting a 38.

He fired a 45 on the back nine, running into trouble on the par 4 13th hole where he registered an eight. His up-and-down round also included a birdie on the 11th holes and pars on 12 and eight.

Brett Reid of Community Christian finished 1-over-par at the two-day event and claimed the individual state championship.

Community Christian — a school of less than 30 students in Willmar — also claimed the Class A team title.
