On Tuesday June 11, the Owatonna Silver Streaks' offense erupted and scored early and often against the top team from Northfield, winning 31-16.

Owatonna's defense held strong as well, giving the Silver Streaks a crucial victory, elevating them to first place in league standing, tied with Faribault Golden Eagles Talons at 3-1 and dropping Northfield to 2-3.

Meanwhile, Owatonna Senior Silver Streaks were slowly pulling ahead of the Northfield of Dreams and after 7 1/2 innings, leading 19-14 and looking like the first victory of the season was at hand.

Northfield, though, had other ideas and scored six runs in its ninth, taking a 21-20 lead. In the bottom of the last frame, Owatonna put two runners in scoring position when Jerry Besser delivered a walk-off base hit to hand the Senior Silver Streaks a thrilling 22-21 victory.

Next week on Tuesday, both Owatonna teams travel to Cannon Falls to play the Boomers. The following week on June 25, Owatonna will host the league tournament with eight teams in town at the fairgrounds ball fields. Games are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
