Maurene M. Grunwald 1924–2019 Blooming Prairie—Maurene May Grunwald, 94, of Blooming Prairie, died Monday, June 10, 2019, surrounded by her family. She and her twin sister were born at home in Blooming Prairie Township on December 12, 1924, the daughters of Frank and Alma (Eaker) Borchert. She grew up on the Borchert family farm and attended country school next to Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Blooming Prairie. On June 24, 1947, she married Laurel Grunwald at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the Borchert family farm. Together they raised hogs, cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, riding horses and work horses. She and her husband were honored and proud to grow the farm and eventually purchase it from her parents. The farm earned the honored distinction of becoming a Century Farm in the 1980's. Along with farming, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, and attending dances with friends, Eugene and Virginia Motl. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church all of her life. One of the most difficult decisions for Maurene was to move off the farm. Her family made sure she enjoyed many visits back to the farm over the years.
