Marvin F. Witt 1934–2019 Northfield—Marvin F. Witt, age 84, of Northfield, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 25, 2019. Marvin was born May 2, 1934, the son of Frank and Frances (Ehlers) Witt in Hankinson, North Dakota. Marvin grew up during the depression and worked jobs to help earn money for the family. His dad passed away when Marvin was 13. He and his older brother worked to help care for their mother and 4 other siblings. At one time setting up bowling pins at a local bowling alley at night. In high school, he participated in football and was somewhat of a rabble-rouser who once let go of a box full of frogs and snakes during his senior year in the school. All was forgiven though, and Marvin graduated in 1952 from Hankinson High School. As a young man, Marvin met Caroline Smith, from the neighboring town of Breckenridge, and they soon began dating. They were united in marriage July 24, 1954, at the St. Mary's Parish House. Marvin worked road construction for a time and the family traveled throughout the Dakotas eventually settling in Hankinson near family. In 1959, the family moved to Northfield where Marvin worked as an auto mechanic and later owned and operated his own business, Marv's 7th Street Standard Station. He worked long hours and many times worked after business hours on customer vehicles. He was always willing to help and would do anything when needed. As many of you know, Marv had a lifelong interest in cars and became a car enthusiast. He helped start the Defeat of Jesse James Days car show and was a member of the MN Street Rod Association, and Sundowner Car Club along with being involved with a local investment club. Marvin loved ribs on the grill, a good steak, fish frys in Mark's driveway or with family at the Whistle Stop, and Leanne's wonderful muffins. He enjoyed listening to polka music and dancing with Caroline at local ballrooms. Marvin and Caroline were always a team. The love they shared was evident to all who knew them. After Caroline became stricken with dementia and eventually went into Three Links Care Center, Marvin was always by her side. After Caroline's death in March of this year, he knew that without her, his life had changed. Even though he had the love and support of his family and friends, it was clear he was truly heartbroken over losing the love of his life after 64 years of marriage. Marvin was a man with deep Christian values. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his children Leanne (Jeffrey) Stremcha of Duluth; Michael (Darlene) of Northfield; Mark (Mary) of Northfield; Lori Witt Macrae of Northfield; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother Alvin (Lynn) of Faribault; and his sisters Marjorie Hoeft; and JoAnn Terwilliger both of Frontenac. He was preceded by his wife Caroline (2019); his grandson Shea (2011); granddaughter Julie (1981); his parents; and two brothers Paul (2017); and Roger.
