David Bly of Northfield, who was recently elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives for District 20B, had bypass surgery on Wednesday, which went “better than expected,” according to Shawn Groth, chair of Senate District 20 and the Rice County DFL.
Bly was in the intensive care unit Wednesday afternoon and he will be in the hospital for five to six days, Groth wrote in an e-mail Wednesday.
“I plan on being sworn in at the Minnesota State Capitol on January 8, and assume my full duties,” Bly said in a press release that was sent to the Northfield News Tuesday.
Bly, elected Nov. 6 with 57 percent of the vote, had surgery at Abbott Northwestern on Dec. 12 after a scheduled stress test and an Angiogram indicated the need for the procedure, said the release prepared by Terry Rogers, Bly’s campaign manager.
It’s expected that Bly will be hospitalized for six days after the operation and take part in physical therapy.
“David is in excellent spirits,” Rogers said in the release.
