The Northfield Police Department is advising residents to be on the lookout for counterfeit currency, deemed “motion picture money.”

“Motion picture money is nearly identical to real, U.S. currency,” police state. “The material used in motion picture money is not real currency paper and will test black with a currency pen.”

Other distinctions on the currency include the words “FOR MOTION PICTURE PURPOSES” in the upper right corner of the front of the bill and “MOTION PICTURE PURPOSES” on the rear of the bill. A common serial number on the bills is MP10033014P.

Police state a small amount of the money has been circulating locally.

Local business owners who have received the bills are asked to contact Northfield Police at 507-645-4475.
