Surrounded by family − lots of family − Mary Jane Benjamin saw to it that money for lung cancer research would continue to be raised for “A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation.”
Holding the second annual Larry Benjamin Golf Classic for her late husband − the former co-owner of Northfield Lines, Inc./Benjamin Bus, who died in November 2011 after a battle with lung cancer − Mary Jane was hopeful that the event would surpass last year’s total of $23,000.
At the end of the day, she was confident that would be the case.
“The turnout was phenomenal” she said. “I’m thinking we will surpass last year’s total. This year we had seven event sponsors, more items in the silent auction (more than 80) and the LB Tree (purchasing a $10 envelope with gift cards inside), which raised about $600.”
Besides many, many family members in attendance, including eight of the nine grandchildren, there were people from Florida, Chicago, all around Minnesota and Ohio playing in the tournament, Mary Jane said.
“Everyone had a wonderful time and we were able to honor Larry,” Mary Jane said. “We’ll be back next year for the third annual Larry Benjamin Golf Classic.”
