The city of Northfield, as part of its refuse hauling partnership with Dick’s Sanitation (DSI), recently announced changes to solid waste services.  Effective April 1, Northfield residents may opt for a smaller trash cart. Pricing for the various cart options is as follows:

• New 20-gallon cart: $11.10/month

• 35-gallon cart: $12.30/month

• 64-gallon cart: $16.70/month

• 96-gallon cart: $21.40/month

The city encourages residents to increase their recycling and now has a 96-gallon recycling cart available at the same cost if residents want to upsize from their existing 64-gallon cart.

A weekly yard waste collection service is now available for Northfield residents for $7.50 per month, for a total of $90 per year. Participants in the program will choose from two collection cart size options: 64-gallon and 96-gallon. Collection of yard waste is planned weekly on Mondays from May to November. In addition to the yard waste cart, participating residents can place up to 10 additional compostable yard waste bags next to their bin for excess yard waste each week. Acceptable yard waste items include grass clippings, leaves, tree branches and plants and flowers. Garbage, rocks and dirt will not be accepted.

"The city of Northfield strives to better our environment and be a green partner. We are excited about the new yard waste program. It is our hope that Northfield residents find the program to be an accessible and convenient way to responsibly dispose of yard waste,” said David Bennett, Northfield city engineer and public works director.
