Tri-City United senior Benjamin Sladek of Le Center just shot another perfect score of 100 of 100 clay targets. Not many of even the top shooters can say they have accomplished this.
Caribou Gun Club in Le Sueur held its 2019 High School Trap Championship event the weekend of June 1-2. This year, there were seven local teams participating: Belle Plaine, Cleveland, Jordan, Le Sueur–Henderson, Sibley East, St. Peter and Tri-City United.
For the second year in a row, the TCU trap team has taken first place at both the varsity and junior varsity team levels. TCU had three athletes place in the individual competition with high overall honors going to:
• Ben Sladek – 1st Place — 100/100 – Perfect Score.
• Andrew Trnka – 3rd Place – 94/100
• Chloe Trident – 3rd Place – 82/100
Sladek graduated this spring from Tri-City United.
“It has been fun watching Ben improve on his shooting over the years,” said Lori Jenson, TCU Clay Target Club secretary and board member. “He has spent many, many hours practicing in all type’s of Minnesota weather. His hard work, efforts and dedication have paid off.”
The League recognizes the Top 100 average overall of the spring 2019 trap season. Sladek qualified for the 2019 All-State Team with a four-way tie in ninth place with a season average of 24.50. Making the All-State Team qualifies him to participate in the 2019 Minnesota State High School League’s State Tournament June 21 at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.
On June 15, the TCU Team will be participating in the Class 6A Competition at the 2019 Trap Shooting Championship at the Alexandria Shooting Park in Alexandria. This is the world’s largest trap shooting event which will take place from June 10 to June 18. There will be over 330 teams with over 8,300 athletes shooting at the tournament during this nine day period. The top finishers from Alexandria will advance to the Minnesota State High School League’s State Tournament.
Sladek also qualified for the Individual State Tournament in 2018, placing in a five-way tie for championship win, shooting 100/100. In 2017, Sladek placed 11th overall at the State Shoot.
