UPDATED: MONDAY 11:40 P.M.

A Faribault man was airlifted to a metro hospital with critical injuries Monday morning following a two-car crash in northwest Le Sueur County.

Lance Olson, 41, had to be extricated from his 2000 Ford Focus following the crash which occurred just before 6 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 11 and 28 near the village of St. Thomas in Tyrone Township, according to a press release from the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Department.

Olson, who reportedly wasn't wearing his seat belt, was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. The Sheriff's Department reported Olson was suffering from internal injuries.

Calls to North Memorial seeking an update on Olson's condition were not immediately returned.

Olson was westbound on County Road 28 when his Ford Focus struck a northbound 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche on the SUV/truck on the driver's side door, according to Sgt. Jacalyn Sticha with the Minnesota State Patrol. The collision reportedly took both vehicles into the northeast ditch of the intersection.

The intersection is signed as a two-way stop with stop signs on County Road 28, which runs east/west.

The driver of the Avalanche, Michael Huonder, 48, of LeCenter, was transported to LeSueur Hospital by ambulance and treated for neck and rib injuries. He was released by mid morning Monday.

Le Sueur County deputies, Le Sueur Police Department, Le Sueur Fire Department, Le Sueur Ambulance Services, Minnesota State Patrol and North Memorial Air Ambulance responded to the accident scene.

The accident is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
