A new business will be opening up on Minnesota Street in Le Center, as Tayt Sexe opens a Carquest Auto Parts store.

“It’s nice to bring business downtown,” said Sexe. “Hopefully we can get more people back downtown.”

Sexe grew up in Le Center, and was always taking things apart to see how they worked. After he graduated from Le Center High School in 2002, Sexe took his passion for learning about how things work and went to Lake Superior College to study auto mechanics.

When Sexe returned to the area, he worked as an auto mechanic at Mankato Oil & Tire for a few years. He then went on to work at the Napa Auto Parts store in Le Center for six years, and now he is looking to start a business of his own.

“I decided it was time to go out on my own,” said Sexe.

Sexe will open the new Carquest Auto Parts store on Aug. 5, and the building at 32 East Minnesota St. will be occupied once again. Sexe has been working to get the building ready, and whenever he is there, someone will drop in to see what’s going on.

“Every day I leave the door open people come in,” said Sexe. “They are excited to see something come back down here.”

Le Center Mayor Josh Fredrickson said that having a new business in town is great, especially one that will be on Minnesota Street.

“That is excellent,” said Fredrickson. “It’s another business on main street.”

So far things have run smoothly for Sexe as he readies his shop for business, but he knows that it will take hard work and dedication to keep it running once it opens. The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will be open during midday on the weekends. Even though Sexe will have two employees, he plans on being at the store for every minute.

“A lot of hours will be spent here,” said Sexe. “I will be here from open to close every day.”

Sexe said dedication is an important trait that residents in towns like Le Center appreciate. He said that he wants to be a hands-on owner.

“People in town like to see the owner,” said Sexe. “They like to see the owner and know that it is not just a name on a door.”

Even though Sexe is no longer working on cars, he still gets the sense of accomplishment of fixing cars. Rather than working on the car, he is helping someone else find what they need to repair their vehicle. And there are a few perks that go along with working behind the counter instead of underneath a car.

“It’s nice at the end of the day having clean hands,” said Sexe.
