Anthony Wade Smith, 56, of Waseca, was charged after an alleged assault in Janesville.

A man came to a mobile home at the Southtown Mobile Home Park to take family members out to eat for a birthday celebration, the criminal complaint said. Smith allegedly charged the man without provocation and hit him at least once in the head, which caused a wound and bleeding. The man took Smith to the ground, wrestled the hammer from him and threw it away from Smith.

Smith was charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. He will have a settlement conference in Waseca County District Court on Oct. 25.
