Waterville-Elysian-Morristown made quick work of Hayfield on Thursday.
The Buccaneers won the first set 25-16, but the latter sets were dominant.
The Bucs won the second set 25-9 and the third set by a 25-10 final.
“It was nice to get a good, quick win to finish out homecoming week,” WEM coach Crystal Lamont said. “Our outsides, Alexis [Morsching] and Toryn [Richards] played well. They hit smart and played good defense.”
Richards had 13 kills and Morsching had 11, first and second on the team, respectively. Morsching led the Bucs with 14 digs and Richards had 10.
WEM (26-2) takes on New Richland-H-E-G at 7 p.m. Monday, a makeup game from when tornadoes hit the area on Sept. 20. WEM closes the season Tuesday at United South Central. Two wins will seal the Gopher Conference title.
“We can’t take either team lightly,” Lamont said. “No one is going to hand us the conference championship. We need to be focused and ready to compete for every point next week.”
