The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown softball team’s dream season continued with a Subsection 1A West championship.

Thursday’s 4-0 win in Austin for No. 1 seed WEM (20-0) over No. 3 Blooming Prairie (9-11) has the Buccaneers a win away from the state tournament.

“Great team win tonight! This group really plays for each other and you can see it on the field!” said WEM coach Crystal Lamont. “They aren’t worried about individual awards or recognition. Its all about team victories. I’m extremely proud to coach this group of girls.”

WEM scored in the first on an RBI groundout by Delaney Donahue.

After Lindsay Condon one spot ahead of her in the lineup hit a home run yesterday, Allison Rients hit a solo shot in the second for the sophomore’s first varsity home run.

Autumn Taylor came around to score in the third and drove in a run in the fifth.

In the circle was Trista Hering who did not allow more than one baserunner in an inning and none past second base.

“Trista threw another great game,” Lamont said of the three-hitter. “Our defense was solid. We got timely hits. All things you need to win playoff games.”

Riauna Bishop pitched a complete game for BP with three earned runs of four total with six hits and no walks allowed. She struck out four.

Three Awesome Blossoms singled.

WEM advances to the Section 1A final noon Tuesday back at Todd Park in Austin at the South field. It will face the No. 2 seed out of the East subsection, Mabel-Canton (14-6). M-C beat Fillmore Central/Lanesboro 9-2 to advance.

The loser will play the winner of the elimination game between East No. 1 Wabasha-Kellogg (13-10) and Blooming Prairie. BP beat Hayfield 2-1 after playing WEM to stay alive.

The WEM/M-C winner will have to cracks at beating the loser’s bracket winner to advance to state.
