Doris Lessing, a British writer and Nobel Prize laureate, once said that a public library is the most democratic thing in the world.
Knowing the importance of its local libraries, the Rice County Board of Commissioners plans to give $419,000 across the county’s four public libraries in 2014 — more than any other outside agency.
